News and Events

We hope to allow limited indoor visits by mid-March.  Here is what you can expect:

We appreciate how important visits are to you and your loved one.  It has been far too long since you have been able to have a normal visit.  These may be a step toward normal visits, but they are definitely not normal.  We still have residents and staff who have not been vaccinated.  The vaccines are quite effective, but not 100% at preventing Covid-19.  We have gotten this far and do not want to let our guard down now.
Any time even one staff or resident has a positive COVID-19 test or if Manistee County’s risk level returns to an “E” or the positivity rate is over 10%, we must stop all visits immediately – even visits in progress. This is beyond our control and has the potential to occur at any time.  We will notify families as soon as possible via Robo call when this happens.

When we have a positive test result, we initiate twice a week testing and indoor visits, except for hospice and end of life, will be stopped until we have gone two weeks without a new positive test.

There are many rules that must be followed.  Visits are very time consuming for the staff involved and they all have their regular duties too.  In spite of the restrictions, we hope you will enjoy your visit.

We expect visitors to be respectful to staff and those supervising visits.  We are doing the best we can to follow the rules and keep our residents safe.  Allowing people into the building with all of the restrictions is new and scary to us and will likely be frustrating at times.  Thank you for your patience.

Only two adult (18 and older) visitors will be allowed per scheduled visit.

No children or pets will be allowed.

All visits will require social distancing with no physical contact and will be supervised.

Any visitor unwilling or unable to adhere to these requirements will lose their visiting privileges.

Visits will be by appointment only Monday through Friday as staffing, PPE and testing supplies allow and visits will not exceed 30 minutes.

In order to accommodate everyone, we will start with no more than 1 visit per week as the schedule allows (to be evaluated after a period of time).

Available times are 10:00 A.M. and 2:00 P.M.

To be fair to other residents and families, you may only book appointments week by week.

We will accept appointments for the next week every Friday.

Appointments will be made through the Activities Director, Tonja Robles trobles@mcmcf.org (231) 723-2543 ext. 109 during normal business hours Monday through Friday between 8:00 A.M. - 4:00 P.M.

Visitors who are late for their appointment will have to reschedule or expect a shortened visit time.

Visitors will remain in their cars and call the facility for instructions on testing and entering the facility.

Visitors should arrive at their scheduled appointment time to complete screening, including a temperature check, and COVID testing.

If there are any noted symptoms, the visit will not happen.

If a visitor has a known COVID exposure or has been instructed to self-quarantine by the health department or employer, visits will not occur until after the quarantine period.

If a visitor has tested positive in the 90 days prior to the visit, they should provide us with their documented positive status.

We do not need to test someone within ninety days of a documented positive test.

Visitors must agree to a point of care COVID test (nasal swab) prior to the visit.

Testing will be conducted in visitor’s vehicle.

Visitors will pull up to the front door, then park and wait for testing results.  There is no charge for this test.  The test will take approximately twenty minutes.

Any positive tests will be reported to the local health department and the CDC for follow up and contact tracing.

Visitors will receive very basic education on infection control and agree to follow the Medical Care’s infection control policies for indoor visits.

No bags, purses, food, beverages or other items can be brought in.  There is no eating or drinking during the visit.  Do not drop off food, laundry or other items for the resident during the visit.

Visitors will be required to sign in and out.

Masks and face shields will be worn at all times within the facility and during the visit.  (These will be provided by the Medical Care if you do not have your own.)

Visitors will be escorted to and from the visit location. Visits for first floor residents will take place in the chapel.  Visits for second floor residents will take place in the Sun Room near the ambulance entrance.

Visitors will be required to visit in the designated area and are not to leave this area at any time during the visit.
If your loved one refuses or is unable to participate in the visit for any reason, we will notify you as soon as possible once we are aware.

Please keep in mind that there will be a physical barrier like a table between you and your loved one. This may be confusing for your loved one and may be difficult for you and for the resident.

You will not be allowed to touch or physically comfort your loved one.

Should the no contact rule be breached, please be aware that your loved one may be required to go into quarantine for 14 days on the isolation unit and you will not be eligible for further indoor visits.

Visitors will notify the facility if they develop any Covid-19 symptoms within 14 days following the visit. Our guidance from the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, the Centers for Disease Control and other government entities changes constantly and may require us to update this guidance frequently.  We will do our best to keep you up to date with the changes.

Your call helps us to provide the best possible care for your loved one and all Manistee County Medical Care residents.

Who is the MCMCF Customer Concern, Corporate Compliance Hot line for?
We encourage any resident, family member or visitor that wishes to express any concern to call.

How will my call be answered?
The line rings directly to a voicemail box.  Messages that are left after business hours or weekends will be retrieved the next business day.

When I have a concern should I call the Hot Line first?
For immediate concerns regarding a resident the facility encourages you to speak to a nurse first.

Why should I bother calling?
We have the same goal as you do:  We want to deliver the best possible care for your loved one.  We can only do this when we work together.

Please leave your name and number along with the best time to reach you.  This is the best way to address a concern and resolve the issue to your satisfaction.

Building addition and renovation project
We are exploring the possibility of building an addition and renovating our facility to include more private rooms and a dementia unit.  Some of the ideas we discussed are in the presentation to the right.  You can download it and take a look.  Let us know what you think.

The original drawings are in the board presentation on the right and a couple additional drawings are in the mcmcf_scheme_b3... file to the right.  We seem to be leaning toward B3 right now.  What are your thoughts?
